Atelier Wolfson is an Interdisciplinary leather studio founded by British-Chinese artist Elaine Chan-Perryman. Her practice is strongly rooted in craft; balancing tradition and innovation. She creates sculptural Leather objects on an intimate scale - one at a time, by hand. Using an incredibly labour intensive technique known as the 'Saddle Stitch'. Her contemporary pieces invite ritual and have utmost respect for Mother earth. By committing to using only vegetable tanned leather, each one of her creations absorbs the traces of our life, naturally ageing without compromising its qualities. A rare material that improves with use and lasts an entire lifetime. It embodies the signs of time and usage as the most personal expression of naturalness and truth. Reminding us that leather has memory, much like our own skin. Through a pursuit for understanding in the materials we choose to work with; she lends scope to the beauty and purity of leather as a material.
