Cesar Cass Salas is fascinated by space—both the spaces we inhabit and the objects that shape them. His creative journey began in architecture, but over time, his focus shifted more toward objects and design. To loves to work with his hands: making, repairing, and altering objects using primarily hand tools giving a tactile connection with the object.

He joined Contact just a month ago and has already found inspiration in the energy of the space. The creative community and openness to experimentation make it a place where new ideas always feel welcomed. For Cass, it’s exciting to be somewhere that encourages proposing and building new things.

Right now, his attention is on chairs. He’s been sanding a collection of them, going between different ideas. He’s also thinking about a larger project, making chairs from old phone booths that he found. For this, he would use the CNC machine to transform the purpose of the object.

People are Cass’ biggest inspiration. A naturally social person, he thrives in connection, and his creative process often revolves around weaving together objects, people, and stories. It’s this blend that making his work special and gives it purpose.

One of his most meaningful projects was a pavilion he never got to build—crafted from compressed aluminum cans. Though it remained unrealized due to not being able to collect and store enough cans, it is one that he still thinks about. It helped him to realise his interest in working with discarded materials and reimagining trash into something beautiful and functional.
