Emma of Studio Prins considers herself a designer but also doesn’t adhere to one specific practice. She has worked and experimented with many different types of artistic mediums over the years, such as oil painting, but has also been curious about working with latex and pottery. Her current focus is on sculpting, specifically with 3D printing using Blender, and creating abstract, colour-free pieces.
Emma has been part of the Contact community since early June. She loves the open, positive energy and finds that people are genuinely interested in each other’s work and eager to help, leading to meaningful collaborations.
Her current project is a series of 3D-printed vases, more design-driven and functional, though the forms are abstractly inspired by water and waves. She’s also preparing to curate her first solo exhibition on December 14th, where she plans to bring together creatives from multiple disciplines—sound, fashion, food, and fragrance—to create a fully immersive sensory experience.
While Emma works across different forms, she consistently avoids using colour. Overwhelmed by the world’s stimuli, she finds peace in reducing colour, creating calm spaces that allow for deeper focus and highlight subtle details. This preference also influences her personal environment, helping her maintain a sense of control and clarity.
Choosing a favourite piece is difficult, but her first 3D sculpture holds a special place. Inspired by the movement and light reflections of water and its movement and reflections, it was the first project that fully matched her vision. While it was challenging to create, the result is incredibly rewarding.
