Tomas Ornaghi
Multi-Disciplinary Artist

Tomas earned a bachelor's degree in sculpture and later another degree at the Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. He has always been interested in sculpture and now focuses on writing and then creating physical objects inspired by these stories and bringing them to life. His work bridges the fantastic and the real. He also works with many other mediums like photography and drawing, weaving these into his practice.

He joined Contact five months ago, in July, and appreciates the warm, community-oriented atmosphere. He enjoys having people around to discuss both work and life, as well as the access to great facilities. Sharing his studio with friends has also been a fun highlight for him.

Tomas recently finished a project that translates a short story from his thesis—a collection of narratives—into a physical object. The work includes a pedestal that serves as part of the sculpture or installation, blending form and function. It is currently on exhibition in Den Haag at Kunstbar until January 26, 2025.

His writing and art are deeply inspired by mythology, history, and storytelling. Recently, he’s explored themes of tourism and its impact, merging these with mythological and historical elements to create thought-provoking works.

One of his most meaningful projects is the book he created for his thesis. It’s a source that he frequently revisits, guiding his exploration of dystopian futures and alternative realities—a theme he’s eager to continue developing.
